Over the course of one single year, there will be a great many car and other such motor vehicle accidents in all parts of the United States. Over the course of just one single year, in fact, there are likely to be as many as six million. And in these accidents, the potential for tragedy is simply far too high.
For instance, up to three million people will become injured in such accidents over the course of the year, and some of these injuries will be very severe indeed. And far too many people will also lose their lives, sometimes up to 40,000 of them in that same span of time. This is reflected by the data that has been gathered on the subject over the years, data that shows that more than 32,000 people died in such accidents in the year of 2013 alone. In the year of 2014, less people died, but still more than 32,000 lost their lives. This means that around 90 people will die in a car accident or other such motor vehicle accident each and every day here in the United States alone, with more than 6,000 people sustaining injuries in various motor vehicle accidents throughout this same 24 hour period.
DUI law has become particularly important in recent years, something that every DUI lawyer well versed in this DUI law has become well aware of. After all, DUI law has become more relevant than ever before, as more and more people are making the choice to get behind the wheel while intoxicated. In fact, up to 300,000 people – close to half of a million – will drive while under the influence of alcohol each and every day here in the United States. Unfortunately, the average drunk driver will get away with driving drunk for as many as 80 times before finally being apprehended and facing the consequences of DUI law and criminal law here in the United States.
And in the meantime, tragedies continue to occur in relation to drunk driving or otherwise driving under the influence. After all, nearly 30 people (around 28, to be just a little bit more exact) will lose their lives in drunk driving related incidents over the course of just one day here in the United States alone. In addition to this, a new person will become injured – and sometimes quite seriously so – in such an event with every two minutes that pass us by.
And driving while under the influence of a substance that is not alcohol is just as dangerous – and often illegal under DUI law, as this DUI law has grown and evolved to meet current needs in the country and the world today. In fact, such car crashes account for up to 16% of all motor vehicle accidents here in the United States. It is also important to note that driving under the influence can occur with legal medications as well as illegal ones, and all will fall under the category of breaking DUI law if they intoxicate you to the point of impairing your ability to operate heavy duty machinery like that of the typical car or other such motor vehicle.
Of course, however, DUI law does not cover all of the car accidents that undergo a criminal investigation here in the United States. Driving while distracted has, for instance, also become more problematic than ever before. In many ways, cell phones and particularly smart phones are to blame for this. These types of technology are more accessible than ever before, and so more and more people are using them throughout the day – including while they are driving and actively on the road.
From DUI law to driving while under the influence or distracted, there are many criminal causes to why car accidents and other such motor vehicle accidents occur with such regularity all throughout the United States. Fortunately, however, we are learning more about the causes of these accidents and can seek to prevent them better, before DUI laws ever becomes necessary to look into or involved at all.
